Malaysia is considering legalizing workers in Malaysia illegally. In an interview at the minister's office on Thursday (June 18th) to mark the centenary, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said some special benefits could be announced in the civil law for immigrants living in Malaysia.

He said that at present, only those illegal foreign workers who are stuck in jail due to the arrest of the immigration department due to lack of permit will be given legal status by the employer in accordance with the rules of the immigration law. However, it should be kept in mind that only those foreign workers who have been illegally residing in the country at different times and detained while working elsewhere can be recruited, but no foreign worker with a criminal record will be covered under this opportunity.

On the other hand, the extent to which these plans will be possible is under discussion with the Immigration Department and other relevant agencies. However, his position on the legitimacy of illegal foreign workers is positive. He wants to talk openly about this with various ministries.

He added that about 2.2 million foreign workers are currently living legally in Malaysia. The country's immigration department has detained 16,227 illegal immigrants since January this year. During this time, 243 employers have been arrested for hiring illegal foreign workers.
